UAA’s Journalism and Public Communications Department — in collaboration with the Alaska Press Club — is excited to offer an online professional development course this spring semester, taught by a team of local and national guest professionals who will provide a range of digital skills training. This course, facilitated by Elizabeth Arnold, is designed for professionals in journalism and strategic communications and students alike.
Online instruction will include: editing tricks for quick-turn stories, using spreadsheets for reporting, using analytics for editorial decision-making, photography ethics, diversity in reporting, etc. To enroll in the class as a non-degree seeking student call Admissions at 907-786-1480. Current students can enroll for JPC 212 (Editing for Journalism & Public Communications) on UAA’s website. Professor Arnold will waive prerequisite classes for working professionals.
Interested in taking a class but unsure about funds? Alaska Press Club members are encouraged to fill out our tuition reimbursement request form, where scholarships are available for training opportunities. Funds for these educational opportunities are made possible with support from Atwood Foundation and Knight Foundation in partnership with Rasmuson Foundation.
