Submit entries as a freelancer or open call contestant

Submitting as Individual/Freelance Journalist- Reporters entering and paying on their own.

Returning Open Call Contestants:

  1. Go to betterbnc.com and click on “Open Call Login.”
  2. If you do not remember your password, use the “Forgot Password” button and BetterBNC will help you retrieve your password.
  3. Once logged in, go to “Open Call Contestant” at the top of the page and click “My Contests.”
  4. Under “Available Contests” locate “2021 Alaska Press Club Contest” and begin submitting entries.

Creating an Open Call account:

  1. Visit betterbnc.com to create an account.
  2. Complete your online profile by filling out your name, organization, mailing address and shipping address. Click “Submit” when finished.
  3. Better BNC will email you an activation link. Click the link to activate your account. Once that is complete you can continue creating your profile.
  4. Log back in and update your credentials. Fill out your employment status, trades and select your areas of work. When finished click “Submit.” (Your credentials are used by contest administrators to determine your eligibility to make entries in the contest.) You can update this information at any time.
  5. The next step is to visit the “My Contests” page to request to make entries to the 2020 Alaska Press Club Contest.
  6. Under “Available Contests” locate and check “2021 Alaska Press Club Contest.” Once you have done that, Alaska Press Club will be notified by email that you are trying to submit entries and will grant you access to the contest.

Submitting Entries:

  1. Go to betternbnc.com and click on “Open Call Login”
  2. Enter your email and password.
  3. If you do not remember your password, use the “Forgot Password” button and BetterBNC will help you retrieve your password.
  4. Once logged in, click “Submit Entry” to begin.
  5. Please make sure you have working links and documents available. (The forms accepted are PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, JPG, GIF and PNG.) IMPORTANT: Please ensure items are not behind a paywall or password protected. If so, please provide username/password info in the comments section for the judges.
  6. Once reviewed, click “Submit.”
  7. The final step is paying for entries.

Pay for Entries:

  1. Navigate to the “Manage Entries” page
  2. Click “Calculate Entry Fees” and then follow the instructions on the screen to pay.
