Travel Scholarships 2023

screen-shot-2017-02-09-at-9-57-40-amThe Alaska Press Club has awarded travel assistance for working journalists and journalism students to attend the annual J-Week professional conference, April 20-22, 2023 in Anchorage.

There were a total of 29 scholarships given, including one that will cover up to eight UAF students taking a bus from Fairbanks to the 2023 Alaska Press Club conference, so a total of as many as 36 attendees awarded travel funds. Ten attendees have come to the Press Club Conference before, while 19 have not (not counting up to seven of the UAF students). Travel scholarship recipients come from all corners of the state, including Unalaska, Kotzebue, Nome, Ketchikan and Haines, from which two people plan to take ferries and overnight in Juneau before flying to Anchorage. We were able to offer travel scholarships to all who applied from outside of Anchorage, and the scholarships should cover the entire cost of airfare for everyone if they use the 7% Press Club discount code with Alaska Airlines.

The awards are for reimbursement for a portion of travel expenses, redeemable by successful applicants after submitting their travel expense receipts. These funds can be used for airfare, ferry or mileage reimbursement.

This was made possible with funding from Atwood Foundation via the Alaska Center for Excellence in Journalism Fund, from Alaska Community Foundation through the Strengthening Organizations Fund and through individual contributions such as memberships, contest entries and general donations.
