Alaska Press Club recognition for fisheries reporting in Alaska with cash awards totaling $1,000 per year.
This award recognizes outstanding reporting on fisheries by journalists who seek to reach a broad audience of Alaskan. This incudes all things fisheries, be it commercial, subsistence, sport or beyond. These stories may delve into a wide range of topics, including – but not exclusive to – the people who participate in fisheries, the politics of fisheries, their economic impacts on Alaska communities, the impacts of a changing climate on the marine environment and the still unfolding scientific research into the ocean ecosystem. These stories may also focus on workplace and safety issues.
The most competitive entries will be engaging, deeply reported stories that offer fresh insights as well as investigative work or other initiatives that expand our understanding of Alaska fisheries.
The top three entries will receive an accompanying cash award, but in any one year, judges may opt to award some, or none of these placements.
The prizes are:
- First place: $600
- Second place: $300
- Third place: $100
