Student Showcase 2026

The Student Showcase, presented by Alaska Teen Media, highlighted seven students’ work throughout the state. Articles, short films, and newsletters were shared and discussed with a curious crowd. See below to read and/or watch the selected students’ work.

The Sun Star

Lizzy is a senior studying Science and Environmental Journalism at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is the copy editor of the UAF school newspaper, the Sun Star, and recently participated in the Alaska Center for Excellence Journalism student exchange where she worked in Haines. Born and raised in Nome, Lizzy enjoys the outdoors and reporting.

Silent Echoes: The Effect of Dance and Mental Health

Alaska Teen Media Institute 

Olivia is a high school sophomore and dual-enrolled UAA ANSEP student with a strong foundation in STEM and a passion for the arts. She explores the connection between structure and creativity through film, using storytelling and dance to reflect on presence, growth, and mental health. Her work highlights how technical understanding and artistic expression can come together to create meaningful, human-centered stories.

Anja Burnett is a UAA Journalism and Public Communication student who will be graduating in May 2026. Formerly a multimedia journalist for The Northern Light, she now serves as the layout editor.
